What is root canal? Root canal is an operation carried out on the teeth by a dentist, which involves the removal of bad pulp damaged by infections from a particular tooth after which the part is sterilized and refilled in other to prevent re-occurrences of infections to the already operated place.
The pulp of a tooth is part of its root, which contains nerves for sensory and vessels carrying blood and nutrients to the tooth. In-fact, these nerves and blood vessels helps with perfect circulation of nutrients and blood. You should note that, when their is surgical removal of the pulp, the nerves and blood vessels are also removed or affected, thereby, hindering their normal jobs. Meaning, if the place is refilled, blood flow and circulation may become next to non.
Now, the thing is, when re-filling is carried out or done, it does not refill 100 percent, this is due to the fact that, fillants cannot just ordinarily or normally fill up those loopholes completely, just as it was before the tooth pulp was infected.
Before a tooth is infected, it is a complete living element with several nerves and blood vessels serving it in order to make it a living organism. But once it is re-filled, it won't be as nourishing as it used to be and microscopic spaces or openings are left behind. And this is where the problem lies.
It has been known that some strains of bacteria thrive well in these microscopic openings. Bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus will definitely thrive. And once they are sealed up in this little openings it may spell doom for the patient. The reason is that, immune system cannot reach there, because of the absence of vessels that help to circulate blood supply to this place. Even, if you use antibiotics, their is no way they can reach their, for as long as blood vessels cannot carry this anti-bacteria drugs to the infected place. But, you should also not that, these bacteria (Staphylococcus and Strptococcus), can also spread to other parts of the body and become more severe that you will need special care to get your disease treated properly.
